It was with an accordion on his shoulders and his ears tuned to Brazilian popular radio that Marcelo Jeneci released Night Clube Forró Latino (Volume I) a year ago , an album that transforms hits from pagode, sertanejo, pop and reggae into new MPB gems, packed with the accordion and the Northeastern-Latin swing. With special appearances by João Gomes, Gaby Amarantos and Chico César, the album is born from the mix of tradition and boldness. A work that reaffirms the accordion as the protagonist of Brazilian music, capable of translating with beauty and sophistication the intensity of our parties and feelings. From “Amor de Que”, by Pabllo Vittar, to “Sei de Cor”, by Marília Mendonça, the album is a love letter to the songs that rock Brazil, now stitched together with xote, bachata, cumbia, soul and forró. “You can play anything on the accordion! And that’s how I live my life on the road, with my friends, and I no longer separate day from night. With me, in the nightclubs and Latin clubs out there, from Pabllo Vittar to Luiz Gonzaga, from Caetano Veloso to the wonderful Mendonça, it’s all forró,” Jeneci summarizes, in a statement that encapsulates the spirit of the album. “Night Clube Forró Latino” is also a portrait of Jeneci himself: son of Mr. Manoel, an accordion electrifier in Sairé (PE); sponsored by Dominguinhos; forged on the road with Chico César. An artist who, without separating day from night, continues to live his life between dances, nightclubs and love. The album was nominated for the 2024 Latin Grammy in the category of Best Roots Music Album in Portuguese Language, recognition that confirms the strength and originality of the project.
